Dispelling Christian Myths

Do Christians follow a religion based on myths or do we reads our Bibles carefully?

Jesus was not a white man with long hair, but a Jew!

I do not believe that Jesus had long hair because according to '1 Cor 11:14' it is shameful for a man to have long hair! Some African Christians have portrayed Jesus and Mary as Negro's. We should stop idealising Jesus, but accept what is true according to the Bible. Either accept all of the Bible or none of it!

The time of Christmas

"Christmas, as everybody knows, is not the birthday of Christ. He was not born in the middle of Winter, we know that for sure because the sheep were out in the fields. It would have been very cold at night in the hills of Judea and it has always been the practice of shepherds in that area, not to keep sheep in the fields after about the end of October. It is also extremely unlikely that Herod would have ordered people to travel to their home towns for registration in the middle of Winter...."

For more information on this subject, see Mike Gascoigne's Christmas page.

Bible chronologists and historians say that Jesus was born at 4 B.C. and his date of birth was affected by a change in the calendar.

Three wise men?

Where in the Gospels does the word three appear, associated to the wise men that brought gifts to Jesus! Three different types of gift were mentioned but this is not enough to just assume that there were three wise men.

The fruit of knowledge of good and evil was not necessarily an apple!

Where in Genesis is an apple mentioned?

If anyone can think of any more well known Christian Myths, please let me know and I will add them to this list!
